Following the release of the law’s implementing rules and regulations, telecommunications companies will begin SIM (Subscriber Identity Module) registration on December 27 of this year.
On Monday, December 12, the National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) released the IRR of the SIM Registration Act on its website. The IRR is set to go into effect on December 27, 2022.
The commission held public hearings on the SIM registration act in conjunction with the telco sector to develop the method and rules that all public telecommunications entities (PTEs) must follow while developing their separate registration platforms.
The passage of the SIM Registration Act is a big step forward in fighting fraudsters who have been using SIM cards to conceal their unlawful operations.
To use Globe services, all new SIM cards must be registered immediately, while existing SIM cards must be registered within 180 days or six months after the law’s implementation.

“We will continue our close collaboration with the government to ensure full implementation of the SIM Registration Act to achieve our shared goal of stopping cybercrime, including SIM-aided fraud,”

Existing clients who are not currently using smartphones and may not be technologically literate will be given additional support so that they may complete the registration procedure as well.
This measure is in addition to Globe’s long-standing fraud-prevention efforts, which include investments in filtering systems, proactive blocking of scam and spam SMS, and data-sharing partnerships with banks and other financial institutions.
In the next days, Globe will provide additional information regarding its SIM registration platform and procedure through its official channels.
